Crack Team Causing Cracks

Crack Team Causing Cracks

The United States Air Force has grounded 116 C-130 transport planes after cracks were found in their propellers. The cause of the cracks is even more surprising.

The Air Force explains that the cracks were caused by serial numbers that were engraved into the propellers by maintenance workers -- who were inspecting the planes specifically for cracks. An Air Force spokesperson says the inscription procedure is being discontinued and will not be used again. The grounded planes are now in the process of being repaired and will be returned to service over a period of time. (AVweb

Scott's Thoughts:

  • The crack inspectors had one job to do, and it wasn't to cause cracks in the planes.
  • Couldn't they have just used a Sharpie to write the serial numbers?
  • "Let's just engrave the numbers in the props. What could possibly go wrong?"
  • Isn't it ironic? Don't ya think?
