Drunk In the Trunk!

Drunk In the Trunk

A village in India was storing huge pots of liquor near a jungle where a herd of elephants live, and they'll be sure to never make that mistake ever again.

Villagers on Wednesday discovered that their large pots of a fermented alcoholic beverage called "mahua" had been broken, and then found the culprits -- a herd of two dozen elephants that were passed out drunk in the jungle. Villagers tried to wake the elephants but they wouldn't budge, so they called in wildlife officials who banged on large drums to make enough noise to wake them. Once they got back on their feet, they scattered away from the area. One wildlife official explained that elephants love the booze, saying, "It's pure, it's tasty, and it's powerful. When they smell it, they can poke their trunks into kitchens or break down walls to get to it. Once finished, they stagger back home, toppling the odd tree or house on the way." (People)

Scott's Thoughts:

  • It's got to take a ton of booze to get an elephant drunk.
  • Imagine the hangover these elephants must have had.
  • Why am I suddenly thinking of the movie "Dumbo?"
