Couple Obsessed With Aldi Marries At The Supermarket

A couple of Aldi super fans just tied the knot at an Aldi grocery store. Michigan residents Michael and Jessica Hurd became the first couple to get married in one of the supermarket’s locations when they exchanged vows last week at the Aldi Insights Center in Batavia, Illinois. The newlyweds were winners of a contest the grocery chain ran, so they got the entire wedding for free.

The pair, who have been together for nine years, was chosen from 500 applicants after writing a short essay on why they deserved Aldi to throw their wedding. Jessica and Michael explain that Aldi has always been a big part of their relationship because they work opposite schedules and only get to see each other on weekends, when they grocery shop together. “We’ve always cherished our Sunday morning shopping ‘dates’ at Aldi,” the Hurds say. “It’s something we look forward to doing together each week. As soon as we heard about the contest to get married in an Aldi, we both agreed it was fate.”

For the event, the wedding party walked down the aisle to Queen’s “Somebody to Love” played by a live string section as flower girls tossed petals down the aisle. The wedding officiant, Aldi’s own marketing manager, Matthew Case, delivered a grocery pun-filled speech, with lines including, “Their love is filled to the brim with kindness, mutual respect and the kind of comfort we thought was only found in a bowl of Park Street Deli Macaroni and Cheese.” Along with their free wedding, complete with hair, makeup and professional photography, the newlyweds also scored a year’s worth of free groceries from Aldi!

• “Getting married at Aldi feels like a dream come true,” the happy couple says. “We still can’t believe we had the opportunity to get married in one of our favorite places, surrounded by all our family and friends.”
