A British family brought an Elf on a Shelf into their home to make sure everyone is nice, but his presence nearly left the family homeless this holiday season.
Max Oliver bought the Elf on a Shelf and introduced him to her five-year-old son Charlie. She sat the elf down near a light and explained to Charlie that he will be keeping an eye on him. Just 15 minutes later, the elf nearly burned the house down. Max and her partner smelled smoke and worried there was an electrical fire somewhere inside a wall. But they soon found the cause. The elf had been left too close to a hot lightbulb and it completely burned and melted its face.
Max says, "It wasn't just melted - it was cremated - it was black. I was in hysterics, I thought it was absolutely hysterical. My partner was a bit worried there was a fire in the house then he saw the funny side. We were both creased up and it was one of those funny things." Max was afraid that the elf with the charred face would emotionally scar her son, so she hid it under the sink and left the note which read, "I had to help Santa in the toy shop - I'll be back in a couple of days." She went out to get a new elf and Charlie never knew the difference. (Daily Mail)
Scott's Thoughts:
- Santa's going to find out about this and he's not going to be happy.
- It's a good reminder to be careful where you put the elf.
- It's odd that she thought it was so funny when the house could have burned down.
