For generations, beer has been considered "recession-proof." No matter what was going on in the economy, people would still buy beer.
Well, we might have finally hit a limit here as inflation has jacked up the price of beer more than groceries -- and shoppers are buying less brew.
Economists say that during the last 13 weeks of 2022, beer prices at retail stores rose at a "much higher than normal" average of 7%.
During that time, there was also a decline in amount of beer sold.
Researchers say that beer shoppers might have chosen to buy less beer -- a six-pack or 12-pack instead of something larger -- or maybe bought cheaper brands.
It seems that, sooner or later, everyone hits a breaking point. For now, beer drinkers have been changing their buying habits. We'll see when -- or if -- those habits go back to "normal."
