Why Your Workouts Aren’t Working For You

Being consistent with your exercise routine can be challenging, but when you’re actually doing it and you’re still not seeing the results you want, it can be really frustrating. It turns out, the reason your workout isn’t working for you may have more to do with things you’re doing in your daily life than what you’re doing at the gym.

Experts from Fitness Volt reveal the top reasons why your fitness plan isn’t succeeding and how to fix them.

  • Not getting enough sleep - If you’re not getting enough quality sleep, you probably won’t have enough energy for workouts. On top of that, when you exercise muscles release amino acids that get converted to protein in the bloodstream while you sleep, so you need good sleep for this process to happen.
  • Not warming up before workouts - When you skip this crucial step, your body isn’t fully prepared for the workout, so the experts say you need to get your blood flowing first, even if it’s just a quick jog.
  • Not eating enough before exercise - Your body needs food for energy and carbs are a great option, like toast with fruit or whole-grain cereals. Just keep the portions small so you don’t feel sluggish during your sweat sesh.
  • Not eating the right amount of protein - It’s an essential nutrient in your diet because it supports a healthy metabolism, helps build muscle and even reduces your appetite. The recommendation is to eat around one gram of protein per pound of body weight for optimal results.
  • Not pushing yourself hard enough - If you get too comfy with your go-to workout routine, you may get bored and lose motivation. These fitness pros note that when your body gets used to an exercise, you build up strength and resilience, making it easier for you to do, so you need to slowly push yourself to increase the intensity.
  • Not letting your body rest - Some people think that the more days you spend at the gym, the better your results will be. But the experts say not giving yourself time to rest can actually slow the process down. Over-exercising can lead to exhaustion, which negatively impacts your performance and keeps you from building strength, plus, your body needs time to recover from injuries.

Scott's Thoughts:

  • I’ve got the rest part down, now I just need to add that whole exercising part.
  • I shoot for 3 times per week doing something exercise wise but often only get 2.
  • What’s your favorite way to exercise these days? How often do you change up your routine?
