Mom Is Fuming After Tween Daughter Gets 10 New Piercings At Sleepover

Since their brains aren’t fully formed, kids don’t always make the best choices. Deciding to do body modifications is a big deal for anyone, especially children, which is why they need parental permission before getting them. So it’s not surprising that one mom was furious when her 11-year-old daughter came home from a sleepover with 10 new piercings.

In a since-deleted Reddit post, the frustrated mama anonymously shares that her kid was at a slumber party with some older neighbor girls, who are all 13, 14 and 15. “I was a little reluctant about my daughter spending time with the older girls but we know our neighbors well and often go away with them,” she explains. But she had no idea the girls would be doing piercings on each other.

According to the mom, her daughter had her ear lobes pierced already, but she returned with her “ears all blinged out” with seven new holes in one ear and three new ones in the other. Concerned that her daughter may have been peer pressured to get the piercings, the mom was debating on whether or not she should ban her kid from hanging out with these older friends in the future. Redditors shared their advice for dealing with the situation, including:

  • “I really hope this wasn’t a bullying situation where they did it to see what they could get the younger girl to do,” writes one user.
  • “You obviously need to talk to your daughter about peer pressure, but I would actually be talking to the other parents as well,” shares another. “This was unacceptable, and there are so many issues here, I would hope they would want to address them with their daughters as well.”
  • But not everyone thinks it's a big deal, like a Redditor who comments, “This is pretty normal preteen behavior.”

Scott's Thoughts:

  • I would have exploded. Where was the parent hosting the sleepover.
  • I realize reading this how good my two daughters were.
  • Did your kid ever do anything like this? How did you find out? How did you react?
