A Facebook picture (below) has gone viral, and for good reason. In the photo, 98-year-old Cordelia Mae Hawkins is seen holding her 7-week-old great-great-great granddaughter. The baby’s mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother were also there, meaning six generations of women were in the room.
Hawkins married her husband Bill when she was 16 and he was a 50-year-old widower with 10 children, and she went on to have 13 kids with Bill. According to a family chart put together by her daughter-in-law, Cordelia has 623 descendants, including 234 great-great-grandchildren.
The current world record for most living generations of a family is seven, set in 1989 by a family in New York.
