A woman in Maine is accused of stealing money from a cancer fundraiser and blamed her actions on the high cost of coleslaw.
Police say 55-year-old Camille Yoder hosted a pulled pork fundraiser for a person battling cancer and charged $15 a plate for a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and a baked potato. More than 90 plates were sold and $1,380 was raised, but the family of the cancer patient says they never received any money. They contacted Yoder who eventually agreed to meet with them and hand over only $600.
The family wanted to know where the remaining $780 was and she told them she needed it to pay for the coleslaw. The family suspected she was lying and contacted police. Yoder was arrested and charged with theft. (The Morning Call)
Scott's Thoughts:
- $780 for coleslaw? Must have been some darn good slaw.
- What would she have kept for potato salad?
- She should have said "a portion of the proceeds" will go to the beneficiary.
