When you have a baby on the way, the popularity of names is a hot topic, but we won’t find out this year’s official ranking of the most popular baby names well into 2024. And that’s not much use if you’re naming a baby this year. Official baby name data shared by agencies like the Social Security Administration is out of date as soon as it’s released, as the most recent popularity charts list Liam and Olivia, but those are actually for babies born back in 2021.
So if you want to know which names parents are considering right now, baby naming site Nameberry has come up with a list of their most viewed girl and boy names for 2023 so far. These are a bit more unique than the names we tend to see on lists of the most popular baby names. The experts at Nameberry say top trends include short names with long vowels, as well as dark academia names.
