New York Campaign Begs People To Pick Up Their Dog's Droppings

In New York City, dog owners letting their pooches poo wherever they want has gotten so out of hand that the city has had to come up with a campaign to stop it. In fact, the Sanitation Department reports that in the first four months of this year, there has been a 31% spike in complaints about dog droppings on the sidewalk.

This has led to an all-hands-on-deck campaign by the city to discourage people from walking away after their dog relieves himself. Digital posters at bus stops and kiosks across all five Burroughs are gearing up with messages like “DON’T LEAVE IT ON THE SIDEWALK,” and “UNTIL THEY CAN, IT’S ON YOU.” These ads are accompanied by pics of pups publicly doing their business. Can New Yorkers who don’t pick up after their pets be fined? Technically, yes, to the tune of $250. However, it’s almost never enforced. In fact, only 18 tickets were handed out in all of last year.

Scott's Thought:

  • This is not only a problem in NYC. Folks in Roanoke and Lynchburg need to do the same in our parks. If you choose to have an animal, it is on you to clean up after it or you don't deserve to have an animal!!
