Four children have been found alive after 40 days of wandering in a Colombian jungle, following a plane crash. The siblings, ages 13, 9, 4, and 11 months, were flying from one village to another with their mother and two other adults, who were all killed in the crash. The kids were able to survive over a month on cassava flour they took from the plane, jungle fruit, and seeds.
After narrowly missing them on other occasions, Colombian soldiers were finally able to track the kids down when they heard the infant crying in the distance. President Gustavo Petro described the kids saying, “The minors were already very weak. And surely their strength was only enough to breathe or reach a small fruit to feed themselves or drink a drop of water in the jungle.” However, they appear to be in “acceptable” health and Petro predicts their story “will remain in history.”
