If you want to test your relationship, nothing does it quite like traveling together. Taking a trip with the one you love can reveal a lot about them, like how they handle stress, unfamiliar situations and living together, even temporarily. Everyone has their own idea of the perfect vacation, but for those in a relationship, it all depends on how long you’ve been together.
These are the ideal couples’ trips for every stage of your relationship.
- After a few months of dating - For your first getaway together, a local Airbnb is a great destination. Limit it to 48 hours and go somewhere stress-free, but be sure to include some activities so you can see how they handle doing things they’re not thrilled about.
- After you’ve made things official - Once you’re a legit couple, it’s time to tackle a new city together. Book a fun hotel for a long weekend and see how your boo navigates an unknown place with you.
- For your one-year anniversary - After spending a year with this person, you’re ready for a week in a foreign country. International trips bring their own challenges - long-haul flights, language barriers and culture shock - but it’s a great way to celebrate your relationship milestone together.
- The honeymoon - Weddings can cost a small fortune, which makes an affordable getaway ideal for a honeymoon. Pick somewhere fun and relaxing and enjoy that adventure with your new spouse.
- After a year of parenthood - When you have a year of diapers and sleep-deprived nights under your belt, you and your partner deserve a little break in paradise. A no-agenda beach vacay will do the trick and if you can leave your precious little one with a trusted relative and go do nothing with your S.O., even better.
- With the kids in tow - Traveling with children can seem less like a vacation and more like a chore, but choosing the right spot can help. An activity-friendly beach trip will keep you as busy as you want to be with sand, sun, surf and lots of time for making memories.
- For your 20th wedding anniversary - At this point in your relationship, you guys deserve something majestic. Plan a vacation to a bucket list destination and go all out, at least as much as your budget will allow.

Scott's Thoughts:
- Wait, you’re allowed to take a trip without your kids?
- That first trip with a significant other can be stressful. Sharing a bathroom in close quarters can especially be stressful for us big men!
- Money has been an issue for taking big expensive trips for me. Just mostly beach trips or other regional places.
