Land Ho! A man has been rescued after a harrowing five hours treading water off Long Island, New York. Dan Ho, 63, dove in the sea around 5 am when strong currents carried him two-and-a-half miles off the coast, according to the police. However, the adept swimmer kept himself alive by treading water until 10:30 am and making a makeshift flag out of a fishing rod and his t-shirt. Thatâs when he was finally spotted by two men in a motorboat who came and scooped him up.
By the time medics came, Ho was so exhausted, he was unable to stand. However, he was conscious and alert. He was moved to another boat where crews immediately treated him for hypothermia. Ho was then whisked to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for further evaluation.
