Have you been spending more time than you care to admit thinking about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce since Sunday? It seems like just about everyone is captivated by the potential romance and people have even made up couples names for them - Swelce or Traylor or Tayvis. So why are so many people emotionally invested in the NFL player and the international superstar possibly dating?
Relationship experts have some ideas about why we ship them:
- Reason number one - He’s a “cinnamon roll hero.” Both Swifties and football fans watched Taylor giggle through the Kansas City game as she cheered on Travis and his team with his mom, and psychologist Amber Przybyla says Taylor’s body language and ease with his mom, Donna, plays into our curiosity and excitement. Romance fiction writer Alexa Martin says Travis is like one of the “cinnamon roll heroes” she writes about - a leading man with a soft side. And Matchmaker Maria, a pro matchmaker, says seeing the interaction between Taylor and Donna makes her believe “that Taylor Swift will one day marry this nice woman’s son, Travis.”
- Reason number two - Her excitement makes us excited. Swift’s last long-term relationship, with Joe Alwyn, was pretty private, so seeing her enthusiastically hanging out with Travis makes us root for them. Seeing Taylor so clearly invested at his game got fans invested too, according to Matchmaker Maria.
- Reason number three - They’re both high achievers. Taylor and Travis have both achieved massive success in their own careers and Matchmaker Maria says it’s better that they’re both successful “just on different podiums.” They each know what it’s like to be in the public eye and they can each shine professionally, without having to share the spotlight or resent the other’s success.
