She’s dead and doesn’t even know it! A woman in Missouri says she’s been living a “haunting” nightmare after the government mistakenly declared her dead in 2007. It all started 16 years ago when Madeline-Michelle Carthen, 52, received news that her social security number was associated with a deceased person. At first, she laughed it off but now, she can’t even get on a payroll for a job.
Carthen claims the social security number SNAFU has affected her ability to pay rent, get a mortgage, and even hold down a job. She even told a local news outlet that after being denied financial aid, they told her to “Prove to us you're not dead.” And this poor woman isn’t the only one. Over 12,000 people in the US are mistakenly classified as dead, according to "Smithsonian Magazine".
