A 60-pound African tortoise that escaped from its owner in Florida more than three years ago and remained on the (slow) run ever since, has finally been found.
The animal was reported missing in 2020 and seemed to disappear without a trace. That is, until, sheriff's deputies recently spotted her trying to cross a road in Interlachen, Florida -- about 60 miles south of Jacksonville. Deputies say they knew she was someone's pet because she was friendly to people and enjoyed getting patted on the head.
The tortoise was turned over to a nonprofit animal refuge which was able to track down its owner. It turns out that the animal's three-and-a-half year journey took her about five miles away from her home. She likely survived on weeds and flowers. Vets say she's in a little bit of rough shape but is otherwise healthy. (Yahoo)
