Santa Claus is known for having a round belly that shakes when he laughs like a bowl full of jelly, it’s one of the things he’s famous for. So no one’s expecting a movie featuring the man in the red suit to show him buff and fit, but some on-screen Santas are definitely bigger than others. And a new study reveals which ones are the heaviest of all.
- Researchers at ZAVA compared the St. Nicks in 10 popular Christmas movies, TV shows and ads to see which one is largest.
- They compared them on a combination of factors, including the height of the actor, their known weight and body shapes to calculate each Santa’s body mass index (BMI).
- As you might suspect, nine of the 10 famous Santa Clauses are obese or severely obese.
- The fattest Santa is the one in “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” as he’s five-feet, five-inches tall and weighs in at 300-pounds, giving him a BMI of 49.9.
- For comparison, a healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9, one from 25 to 29.9 is overweight, from 30 to 39.9 is obese and anything over 40 is considered severely overweight.
- The slimmest Santa in the study is the one Richard Attenborough played in “Miracle on 34th Street.” At five-feet, six-inches and weighing 176-pounds, his BMI is 28.4, so he’s the only one not considered obese, but he’s still overweight.
