If Gen Z has anything to say about it, quality of life will be taking priority over dedicating your life to your work. Future-of-work expert Ravin Jesuthasan says it stems from the fact that Gen Z knows their wealth won’t come close to that of their parents or grandparents…and they don’t believe they’re reaping the rewards for hard work that they’ve been led to believe would be there. The attitude boils down to what Jesuthansan says is “work to live,” rather than the “live to work” attitude many members of previous generations grew up with…and benefits like guaranteed pensions and medical care being taken away…so they’re going in with expectations of how they want to be treated and are unafraid of bailing if they’re not met.

- Why can't they enjoy living AND have a good work ethic? My Gen Z kids do!
- I can see it is different. For me, as a Gen X person, my self worth is mostly measured by my work. At least in my own mind.
- "Work to live.. not live to work" has always made me think that the person saying it is just lazy and doesn't really want to work.
