A plane trying to take off from New Zealand's Wellington International Airport was recently delayed after a trespasser in a tuxedo walked onto the runway and blocked the plane's path.
The tux-wearing invader was actually a penguin. The small flightless bird, estimated to be about six-weeks old, walked in front of an Air Chathams flight as it was preparing for takeoff. The flight was briefly delayed while airport staff ran out to the runway to pick up the lost penguin. The bird was then taken to the Wellington Zoo where it was examined by vets and found to be "a little underweight" but "otherwise in good health." The zoo says it will care for the penguin until its feathers become waterproof and will then be released back into the wild.
