Did you get something special from the one you love for Valentine’s Day? If you’ve been together for a long time you may not have received anything, new research suggests.
It finds that many couples stop giving each other cards or gifts after six years, on average. That’s a year sooner than the “seven-year itch” - the idea that things get rocky after the seventh anniversary and divorce rates climb as a result of feeling restless or frustrated.
The survey from stationary brand Ryman reveals:
- Couples who do make it past this bump in the road can keep the passion alive no matter how old they are with one surprising thing - X-rated gifts.
- More than a third (37%) of Gen Z will be opting for a risque gift or card this Valentine’s Day and one in 10 of those over age 65 will do the same.
- Overall, men seem more eager to make their partners happy for the love holiday. Guys spend nearly twice as much as women on Valentine’s Day, an average of just over $54 on presents and cards, compared to the almost $29 women spend on their partners.
- So is it really a big deal to not get anything from the one you love on Valentine’s Day? It is for a quarter of Gen Z who admit they’d consider dumping their partner if they didn’t get a present from them.

Scott's Thoughts:
- Stop it, no one wants to think about their grandparents exchanging X-rated Valentine’s cards!
- As for me and my sweetie, dinner together at home is plenty! Don't need candy!
- Valentine's day should be everyday if you love someone.
