According to the CDC, there have been a growing number of instances involving kids needing to call poison control or go to the ER after overdosing on melatonin gummies. Between 2009 and 2020, there’s been a 530% increase in calls to poison control, and a 420% increase in emergency room visits. The reason appears to be that the kids are unsupervised, and the gummies are being confused as candy. Fortunately, most cases showed “mild to no side effects,” but around 6.5% of the cases did require hospitalization for a “melatonin binge.”
