PETA Wants Changes In The White House Easter Egg Roll

Ah, PETA, you never disappoint. One of the most notable Easter traditions is the annual Easter Egg Roll held on the White House lawn. Wholesome fun, right? Not in PETA’s eyes. People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals isn’t thrilled with actual eggs being used and has suggested an alternative. In a letter to First Lady Jill Biden, PETA wrote that it wants to “respectfully suggest an appealing way to modernize the White House Easter Egg Roll,” which is scheduled for April 1 on the South Lawn. “Instead of promoting the deleterious factory farming and slaughter industries, will you please initiate the annual White House Potato Roll?” the letter from PETA President Ingrid Newkirk asks. A “potato roll,” Newkirk said, wouldn’t “exploit any sentient beings and would encourage empathy and kindness to animals while supporting potato farmers in the U.S.” The letter went on, “Potatoes are the most popular vegetable in the country and can be safely dyed, allowing for spudtacular traditional activities, such as rolling them, seeking for them, and decorating them. You could even hold potato sack races and games of hot potato!” Won’t somebody think of Mr. Potato Head?

Scott's Thoughts:

  • PETA. Please. Just Stop.
  • I respect people who choose not to eat meat. Be Vegan, Be Vegitarian... be you. But don't tell me not to eat meat, eggs or meat biproducts. Not your place.
  • Some traditions need not change.
