In the rush of day-to-day life, some things are easily forgotten or brushed off as not important right now, but brushing your teeth shouldn’t be one of them. But it happens more than you might think, as a new survey finds that Americans admit to forgetting to brush their teeth five times a week, on average.
According to the poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults:
- The toothbrush isn’t the only thing they’re neglecting, they also admit to skipping the floss and mouthwash four times each week.
- Forgetfulness aside, 92% believe their oral care routine is important to their overall health.
- And more than half (51%) say oral hygiene is so important, they’d talk to a loved one if they noticed bad oral care habits or bad breath.
- Some would even go as far as being willing to look into a friend or relative’s mouth (32%) or even lend them their toothbrush if they needed it (14%).
- Despite any bad habits, 75% of Americans agree that there’s a “right way” to take care of your oral health, including going to the dentist regularly (81%), brushing teeth multiple times daily (75%) and using mouthwash (60%).
- While 89% say they feel more confident when they feel good about their oral health, a quarter of those surveyed admit they’re embarrassed by the current condition of their oral health.
- Over the last year, people have experienced dental problems including sensitive teeth (34%), plaque build-up (28%) and bleeding gums (24%).
- But it’s even worse for one in five respondents because they suffer with pain in their mouth or discomfort in their teeth and gums at least every other week.

Scott's Thoughts:
- Sorry, I’m not lending anyone my toothbrush! If someone needs to use it, it’s theirs now!
- I do not always brush 2 times a day like I should. But I do every morning.
- Sometimes flossing just seems like so much effort.
