There’ll be no more playing with LEGO’s for the Murrieta Police Department in Southern California. Since early 2023, the department had been using images of LEGO heads to cover the faces of mugshots they’d been posting onto social media. Now, the LEGO Group has said enough is enough. The department says they started using the LEGO faces to protect the rights of the accused, and still increase community engagement through social media. While there was no litigation involved, LEGO did “respectfully request” the police to refrain from “using their intellectual property” for their “social media content.” The Murrieta Police Department is currently seeking out other methods of keeping their posts alive…without the use of LEGO heads.
