The Scoop On How Often You Should Poop

To poop, or not to poop, that is the question. You might not want to talk about it, but we all do it, and how you do it can reveal things about your overall health. Generally, people think that taking a daily dump is the way to go, but medical experts on the subject say that’s not always the case. It really comes down to “the individual and their pooping schedule.”

  • It’s more important to get yourself on some kind of regular and consistent “pooping schedule” than sweating over whether you’re doing it once a day, or not
  • Some people have a psychological issue with pooping away from home, and suffer a form of “vacation constipation” while away, even if they’re just at work
  • Bowel habits change as you age, which could mean longer bathroom visits as your insides slow down your “transmit time”
  • The kind of food you’re eating, how much exercise you’re getting, and how much water you’re taking in can all play a role in the quality of your poop sessions
  • Think “quality over quantity” when it comes to your bathroom experiences
  • If it’s been three days and you still haven’t let loose a sewer pickle, and a laxative or fiber supplement hasn’t worked, it might be time to see a doctor
