As we get closer to the November election, a new survey suggests Americans are less than pleased with the current presidential candidates. According to the poll of 500 Democrats and 500 Republicans, 37% believe they would actually make a better President of the United States than either President Joe Biden or Donald Trump.
The survey also reveals:
- When Biden and Trump take the stage for the first presidential debate of the 2024 election season, 61% of Americans will be watching.
- The most important topics Americans want the candidates to debate are the rising cost of living (50%), inflation (49%) and immigration (38%).
- But Democrats and Republicans don’t see eye to eye about which topics are most important to them. More than half of Republicans (51%) say immigration is important to them, but only 18% of Democrats feel that way.
- Americans are also split along party lines about abortion and healthcare access, with 45% of Democrats saying these issues are important to them, while only 15% of Republicans say the same.
- On the issue of climate change, 29% of Democrats are interested compared to just 7% of Republicans.
- The issue of global conflicts in Israel, Palestine and Ukraine is slightly more important to Democrats (18%) than Republicans (13%).
- Nearly a third (29%) of respondents think state laws should be changed to allow felons to vote, following Trump’s conviction of 34 felony charges on May 31st.
- While 56% of Dems are firmly against felons being allowed to vote, 32% of Republicans are in favor of it.
- Almost half of all respondents (47%) plan to pay more attention to Trump’s next three trials.

Scott's Thoughts:
- A lot of people may do a better job as president, but who wants that job anyway?
- I don't want to be President, but don't like our choices. Biden is too old and liberal for me, Trump is too... well too TRUMP for me. Maybe a 3rd party candidate is the way to go?
- I don't talk much politics. Seems to start arguments these days.
