Warning symbols … You're driving your car and then suddenly you see an illuminated exclamation point inside a circle pop up on the dashboard. You know it means something is wrong, but do you know what? Many Americans don't. They also don't know what a lot of the other warning lights mean. For the record, it's a brake warning light and, according to a new poll, some people thought it meant that the fuel was low. 2000 drivers were shown dashboard warning symbols and less than 40% said they felt confident in their ability to correctly identify each one. Only 63% correctly identified the check engine light, 72% know what the tire warning light means, 65% know what to do when the oil warning light comes on, and 71% can recognize the symbol warning that the hood is open.
