Thanks to technology, social media, and artificial intelligence, people appear to be losing “cognitive and social skills they need for a thriving personal and professional life.” Psychologist Richard Davis says that people today “rely on their phones so much that they’re increasingly unable to make judgement calls on their own.” One example Davis gives is the use of WAZE and Google Maps. “People once used physical maps or memory” to get someplace, but today, if one of those apps goes down, people might be legitimately screwed because they’re not mentally equipped to handle the situation unassisted. That also goes for the ability to “talk and connect” with other people. Being tech savvy will get you far, but being able to physically talk to other humans face-to-face will get you farther. Davis recommends “getting your head out of your phone,” and being more social.
