Doctor Recommended Tips For The Best Sleep Ever

Are you tired of tossing and turning all night and yawning all afternoon because you didn’t get enough sleep? A lot of us are and we’re willing to try just about anything to help us drift off to dreamland and stay there until morning. Dr. Nick Pappas may have the solution we’re looking for.

The board-certified hand surgeon is revealing the four things he swears by to get a perfect night’s sleep. According to Pappas, these will ensure the best sleep ever.

  • Blackout curtains in the bedroom - These block out any light creeping into the room, which helps the very light sensitive doctor snooze better. Darkness helps promote the production of melatonin, which helps the body’s circadian rhythm stay on track, and light can get in the way of this process, making it harder to get to sleep and stay asleep.
  • Screen-time cut-off - Pappas stops his screen time half an hour before bedtime, explaining, “Limiting screen time 30 minutes before bedtime can help you stay asleep better by not inhibiting the production of melatonin, your sleep hormone.” Science has his back on this one, as research has shown that smart devices and screen time are linked to poor sleep quality and insomnia. So as much as you don’t want to do it, powering down can lead to powerful sleep.
  • Air purifier in the bedroom - The Sleep Foundation reports that nighttime allergy symptoms like congestion, coughing and nose and throat irritation can make it challenging to sleep, and that’s where an air purifier can help. Pappas says having one in his bedroom helps him breathe easier and sleep soundly by removing pollutants and allergens.
  • Magnesium 30 minutes before bedtime - The final step in the doc’s bedtime ritual is taking a sleep supplement. “Recently, I’ve been taking magnesium glycinate supplementation (350 milligrams) 30 minutes before bedtime,” Pappas explains, “which I have found to be helpful with not only relaxation of muscles but also improving the quality of my sleep.” Magnesium is also the main ingredient in the “sleepy girl mocktail,” a trendy drink TikTokers claim helps cure insomnia.
