Some people go all out when they ask their beloved to marry them, while others like to keep it low-key. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, but one guy certainly nailed his proposal by using one of his girlfriend’s favorite things as the theme. Maddie Anderson has been “obsessed” with the TV show “Law & Order SVU” since she was in college and her boyfriend of 10 years, Tyler, pulled off an epic surprise series-themed proposal for her last month.
It all started on a Saturday in July when Tyler went to the gym and Maddie’s friends invited her to go shopping. The San Diego resident accepted, but while getting ready, her friend and neighbor knocked on her door with a big envelope and a bandana.
- The bandana had a message written on it: “Operation find Ty.” It also included details about the attire and weather and was written as if Maddie was a detective on a mission to find her boyfriend by sunset for a special reward.
- She followed the directions and her first clue led her to her favorite coffee shop, where one of her besties was waiting, in character, with instructions for her first mission.
- The friend played a video from Ice-T, star of “Law & Order SVU,” and Maddie was “completely shocked.”
- “Ice-T said, ‘You have a mission, follow the clues’ and then there was a flash of a ring in the video,” she recalls. That’s when she suspected he might pop the question.
- From there, Maddie was guided through a 12-hour scavenger hunt around San Diego, with clues given by friends along the way. Tyler even hired a driver to get her around in style.
- She went to the zoo, the Japanese Friendship Garden, a speakeasy and to Nordstrom, where her mom was waiting with a dress.
- From there, she was blindfolded and taken to Torrey Pines State Reserve, where her dad proposed to her mom, and Tyler was waiting with a blanket and flowers.
"He proposed, I said yes, and we hugged," the bride-to-be says. She shared the experience on TikTok, noting that Tyler isn’t into games, but knows she loves true crime and he went all out for her. "If this is how he proposed, I'm just excited to see how our wedding is and when we have kids and they have birthdays, he's just so thoughtful.

Scott's Thoughts:
- The whole scavenger hunt is impressive, but getting Ice-T in on it? Amazing!
- I tend to keep private life private so I was not into the flashy proposal thing.
- What’s the best proposal you’ve ever seen or heard about?
