*LIST* Old School Commercial Catchphrases Everyone Remembers

There’s a reason those Super Bowl ads go for millions of dollars - because even today, the best way to sell a product is with a widely seen TV commercial. And because advertising execs are so good at what they do, the great ads stick with us, even decades after we first saw them. These are some of the catchphrases from old school commercials that everybody still remembers.

  • Be Like Mike” - This Gatorade commercial came out at the perfect time, less than two months after Michael Jordan won his first NBA Championship. And everybody wanted to be like Mike!
  • “Just Do It” - Some say Nike nailed the greatest advertising slogan ever with this one, which first rolled out in the late 80s.
  • “Bud-Weis-Er” - Who knew the mid-'90s Super Bowl commercial featuring three frogs sitting in the swamp and ribbiting “Bud-Weis-Er” would be one of the most famous ads of all time? The Budweiser ad execs who created it.
  • “How Many Licks” - For those too young to remember, Tootsie Pop first came out with the How Many Licks commercial way back in 1969. It featured a little boy asking different animals how many licks it takes to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop, but they’re not really sure because everyone bites into the lollipop before licking their way there.
  • “Real Men Of Genius” - Bud Light knew they were onto a winning ad with this one and they did more than 200 commercials around the theme in the 90s. They celebrated under-appreciated guys like “Mr. really bad toupee wearer” and “Mr. Pro Wrestling Wardrobe Designer” and they were all pretty funny.
  • “He Likes It, Hey Mikey!” - This Life Cereal ad featured a little boy, Mikey, who was hard to please, but he actually liked the new healthy cereal. It was so popular, it ran for 12 years and there was even an updated version made when the original actor was in college.
  • “Where’s The Beef?” - Back in the 80s, Wendy’s came up with this catchphrase, hilariously delivered by a little old lady, and it went on to be so popular, people used it as a euphemism for anything that didn’t live up to its expectation.
  • “Two All-Beef Patties, Special Sauce, Lettuce, Cheese, Pickles, Onions On A Sesame Seed Bun” - Sure, it’s long, but McDonald’s was onto something with this OG jingle naming all the ingredients of a Big Mac.

Scott's Thoughts:

  • When it comes to a Big Mac, but I’ve known every ingredient on one since I was a kid!
  • I must have watched a ton of TV as a kid. i know all of these!
  • My favorite is the Real Men Of Genius which to me was more about the radio ads, not TV
