If you've ever bought a package of hot dog buns to go along with the package of hot dogs you purchased, you've most likely wondered why they're not sold in the same number. Most packages of hot dogs contain 10 wieners while buns typically come eight in a pack. It can be very frustrating, especially when two hot dogs are left without a bready companion.
Believe it or not, there's a reason for the number inequality. According to The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, "Hot dog buns most often come eight to the pack because the buns are baked in clusters of four in pans designed to hold eight rolls. While baking pans now come in configurations that allow baking 10 and even 12 at a time, the eight-roll pan remains the most popular.” So, if you don't want to be left with unaccompanied hot dogs or buns, the Council suggests buying five eight-pack bags of buns and four 10-pack bundles of hot dogs.
