When you’re born in America, you don’t have to take a citizenship test. Those who immigrate here do. So, it’s interesting to learn just how many naturally born U.S. citizens can’t seem to pass a test on basic citizenship. Professor Kevin Dopf teaches a class on American National Government. On day one of that class, he’ll ask his students to take the test, telling them point-blank that only 35% will pass it…and the rest will be “clueless.” The fourteen-question test features brain-teasers like:
- When was the Declaration of Independence adopted?
- What do the stripes on the U.S. flag mean?
- What is the Bill of Rights?
- Name one right guaranteed by the First Amendment
- How many Senators are in Congress?
- How many are in the House of Representatives?
After that specific test, Dopf says 70% failed.
