As of today, anyone in England and Wales must register their birds with the government, and that includes chickens. A new regulation says that anyone keeping poultry or other captive birds has to register them or they’re breaking the law. It’s always been a law in the UK that people with 50 or more birds had to register them with the government, but the new change means that anyone with one chicken has to register, too. As you might expect, as of last night the official website where residents can register their birds had a notice that said, ”We are experiencing an extremely high volume of applications,” and said the government is trying to process them within 30 days. Nothing worse than an illegal chicken owner, right?
