New York-based art dealer Allen Treibitz found the deal of a lifetime while scoping the goods at a barn sale. For just $50, he managed to nab a painting that he had a feeling had “something special about it.” Treibitz had the painting, which was of a “carved grizzly bear at the top of a totem pole,” appraised, and learned that it was a 1912 work by Canadian artist Emily Carr…and had a potential auction value of as much as $200K. Treibitz will find out next month when the piece will be one of four Carr pieces on the auction block.
