Have you ever seen a little smile or smirk on your dog's face and wondered whether they're really smiling like humans do? Well, the answer is yes. They are actually smiling, according to veterinary behavior specialist Dr. Lore Haug. She says that while certain breeds of dogs are more likely to offer a grin than others, those that do smile do it because they are happy – like humans. That's why their smiles are often accompanied by other happy behaviors like tail wagging and whining. Dr. Haug adds that dogs may also flash a smile when they know they've done something wrong and they're hoping you won't get mad at them. Another interesting fact is that dogs only smile at humans. They do not smile at other dogs.
