*LIST* The Most Haunted Streets In America

Being on the road at night can be enough to give you a fright, but there are some streets across the country that drivers prefer to avoid after dark. A new survey reveals the scariest streets in the U.S. to drive on, but not because you’re more likely to get into an accident on them. These roads are linked to haunted tales, spooky apparitions and other paranormal events.

  • To come up with the list, Gunther Volkswagen, a car dealership in Delray Beach, Florida, asked 3-thousand drivers about the roads they try to steer clear of after the sun goes down.
  • They ranked them to come up with the scariest stretches of pavement in the country.
  • So, what’s the most haunted street in the U.S.? New York’s Route 9, which runs through Sleepy Hollow. It’s the infamous location of the headless horseman in Washington Irving’s 1820 story, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”
  • Legend has it, the rider is the ghost of a soldier who was decapitated during the Revolutionary War and now haunts the Hudson Valley town.
  • Number two on the list is Old Ghost Road in Brooklet, Georgia, which is notorious for “sightings of shadowy figures that vanish when approached and strange lights flickering among the trees.”

Scott's Thoughts:

  • What do you expect from a road named Haunted Highway 359? Or Sleepy Hallow, NY?
  • Honestly the scariest road I have ever driven on at night is near my grandparents house near Deepwater, West Virginia! So very dark and scary.
  • Any backroad in the country can be spooky at night.
  • Don't go through Parrott, Virginia on Halloween at night. Trust me.
