NASA’s unmanned satellite Voyager 1 has been exploring outer space since it was launched way back in 1977. It is currently 15 billion miles away – and has been sending back signals for decades. Last month, it went silent – and scientists feared that Voyager 1 was finished. Then somehow, some way, Voyager 1 reconnected with Earth, using a radio transmitter that hadn’t been active since 1981 – and continues to send valuable data back to Earth.
Scott's Thoughts:
- It’s great that we have a satellite floating around out there, 15 billion miles away, still sending us messages.
- Just wondering, though, why our cell phones still have dead spots here on Earth – and our cell phone batteries sometimes conk out in a day or two? Seems like we should have zero problems with making simple phone calls and with our rechargeable batteries by now.
- Didn't they see the Star Trek Movie? It's V-Ger!!!
