Americans Need This Much Money To Quit Jobs & Travel The World

How much money would you need to drop everything and travel the world? If you’ve ever dreamed of packing a bag, grabbing your passport and heading to the airport for a globetrotting adventure, you’ve probably considered the amount you’d want to have saved before departing. And a new survey pinpoints what that magic number is for Americans.

According to the poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults:

  • The average American would leave their current life behind and vacation anywhere on the planet if they had $287,731 in the bank.
  • But some folks wouldn’t need nearly as much to make their worldwide travel dreams come true, as one in six (18%) would do it for less than $50-thousand.
  • Age seems to be a factor in the amount needed to hit the road, with Gen Z being willing to go with $211-thousand, while boomers say they wouldn’t do it for less than $335-thousand.
  • A third (32%) aim even higher, saying they’d need over $500-thousand.
  • But 17% claim there’s no amount of money that would make them leave their life behind to travel.

The survey also asked how people would spend $1-million if they had to use it all for travel and found:

  • People are pretty generous, as the number one answer is taking family or friends on a dream vacation (37%)
  • “Road-tripping” across the country or in another country comes in second (24%)
  • Exploring famous landmark, like the Eiffel Tower, is the third-most popular answer (21%)
  • That’s closely followed by visiting historical sights and wonders of the world, like the Great Pyramids (19%)
  • Building a “travel bucket list” and checking off every item comes in fifth (18%)
  • The same number of people want to take frequent weekend getaways to new destinations (18%) and enjoy “slow traveling” where you spend months in each location (18%)
  • That million-dollar budget would be spent on luxury accommodations for some travelers (17%)
  • And some would use it to be able to volunteer or give back while traveling (12%)

Scott's Thoughts:

  • Can I have the million dollars first, then decide how to spend it traveling?
  • With the cost of long term care I would be afraid to spend that much money to travel.
  • You are talking lottery money there.
