Working Out Just On Weekends May Have Same Benefits As Doing It All Week

Cheers to all you weekend warriors … A new study found that those who pack their workouts into one or two days get the same health benefits as those who are active all week. The key is to get at least two and a half hours of moderate to vigorous exercise each week, and it makes no difference whether that’s spread out over the week or crammed into a couple days. The study found that weekend warriors had a 32% lower overall risk of death, a 31% reduced risk of dying from heart disease, and a 21% lower risk of cancer compared to those who didn’t exercise at all.

Speaking of exercising …

Are gyms the new nightclubs? It’s no secret that Gen Zers drink less and are more health conscious than older generations were at their age. So it makes sense that gyms are becoming the go-to place for young singles. In fact, according to a new report out of the UK, there has been a surge in gym memberships among young people.

“Young people are seeing health and fitness as part of their identity and a non-negotiable when it comes to their personal priorities. Many of them are telling us they prefer going to the gym rather than more traditional venues for socializing such as the pub,” says Huw Edwards of UKActive.

It’s about being physically healthy – but it’s about being emotionally healthy as well. Gyms are providing young adults a place to meet people in real life, rather than online. “Gen Z are also going to the gym in order to meet a romantic partner and to increase their network of friends because, while they spend a lot of time on social media, the gym offers an in-person experience rather than a virtual experience,” says David Minton of Leisure Database.
