Shoppers in downtown Greenville, South Carolina, encountered an unexpected visitor on Wednesday: Charli XC Cow, an AI-powered robotic calf introduced by PETA to raise awareness about the leather industry's impact on animals. Positioned at the corner of East Broad and South Main Streets, the remote-controlled robot approached pedestrians wearing leather, asking pointed questions like, “Are you wearing my mother?” Charli XC Cow, featuring a 3D-printed head, was designed to educate the public about the suffering cows endure in the leather industry. PETA highlighted that cows often face painful procedures without anesthesia and are sometimes skinned while still conscious. The robot also celebrated encounters with individuals wearing vegan leather by performing a "celebratory dance," aiming to promote cruelty-free and environmentally friendly alternatives. Remember…if you wear leather, the robots are coming for you, which doesn’t sound creepy at all.
