Kevin and Nelisa Key say a worker at a Richmond, Virginia Starbucks location refused to help in a medical emergency because “they didn’t wait in line.” Kevin reportedly started having a medical problem related to his being in Stage 4 kidney failure. Nelisa says her husband was sweating and vomiting, so she ran to the closest business she could find, a Starbucks, where there was a substantial line. As she frantically explained what was happening, the customers all let her move to the front so she could get her man some water, where she says she was told by the employee that she had to wait in line like everyone else. Fortunately, the Capital One Café across the outdoor mall was much more accommodating and was able to provide the water that Kevin needed. After hearing the story, Starbucks Media Relations’ Sam Jefferies says the Key’s have been contacted and apologized to…and they’ve been “welcomed back to a store of their choice” to get the “Starbucks experience they should expect”…which hopefully will include water. No word on whether the rude Starbucks employee was fired.
