Everything has gotten more expensive in the 33 years that have passed since “Home Alone 2” came out, especially that trip to the Plaza Hotel in the movie. A new study compares the price of Kevin McCallister’s solo stay at the iconic New York City hotel to what it would cost today, and it turns out, the price tag has climbed 303% over the last three decades.
When the Christmas movie came out in 1992, the kid famously made his way to the ritzy property by himself and managed to rack up a huge bill on his own. His room service bill alone was nearly $1,000, but he did get an incredible 16-scoop ice cream sundae out of it. Thanks to a new analysis by iSelect.com, we know what the price of that NYC getaway would be in 2025.
- Plaza Hotel suite for one night - In 1992, it was $11-hundred, but now it would cost $6,244, an increase of 467.6%.
- Room service feast - Kevin spent $967.40 ordering food to his suite and that same feast would be $2,233.89 in 2025. That’s an increase of 130.9% and the cost is more than the total hotel bill from 1992.
- A three-scoop ice cream sundae - Back in the 90s, this would’ve been just $18 and today’s price is $24, making it 33.3% more.
- The total trip, from the suite to the sundae, was $2,109 in 1992. And today, it would run $8,511, and that’s not even counting the taxis or limos Kevin treated himself to.
While $85-hundred is a small fortune, some rooms at The Plaza now cost as much as $33-thousand. And if you want to tack on the “Home Alone Sundae,” be prepared to add on another $350.

Scott's Thoughts:
- I couldn’t even afford the 1992 prices today!
- The only time I have stayed in expensive hotels is when it was on someone else's dime.
- We can only dream of having it as good as Kevin!
