GFTW Seeks Donations to Help with Turkey Earthquake & Ohio Train Disasters

Gleaning For The World is asking for financial donations in response to the earthquake disaster in Turkey and the toxic train derailment in Ohio.

A massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on February 6, followed by thousands of aftershocks. The death toll is over 40,000.

Gleaning is asking for financial donations in response to the Turkey earthquake. Monetary support will ensure that critical supplies can be provided quickly.

Medicines, food, drinking water, and other essential supplies for those who are now homeless and living in the makeshift tent cities are being provided by our partners there on the ground, but they need more of these supplies and your financial donation will help.

Additionally, due to the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, and the subsequent soil and water contamination in the area as a result of the hazardous materials the train was carrying, 15,000 pounds of soil and 1.1 million gallons of water surrounding the crash site have been removed due to substantial contamination.

GFTW is responding to help provide clean drinking water for residents of East Palestine.

Clean drinking water is urgently needed and Gleaning is asking for your help.

Gleaning is holding a water collection drive in front of Sam’s Club on Wards Road in Lynchburg on Thursday, February 23 from 10am to 6pm. The collection may continue a second day depending on the availability of water.

The nonprofit is asking for cases of individual bottles of water, as well as bottled gallons with the goal of filling a tractor trailer.

Donations of water can also be dropped off, or delivered to the Concord warehouse.

Financial donations for both efforts can be made online at GFTW.org or, or by calling Gleaning at 434-993-3600.

Donation checks can be made to Gleaning For The World with the relief effort in the subject line (Earthquake Relief / Ohio Clean Water) and dropped off at Gleaning’s Concord location between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday, or mailed to GFTW PO Box 645 Concord, VA 24538.
