Lynchburg, VA – December 14, 2024 – Despite chilly weather and overcast skies, around 350 community members gathered to honor America's fallen heroes during the annual Wreaths Across America ceremony at the historic Old City Cemetery in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The event, held on Saturday, December 14, brought together local residents, veterans groups, and state and local representatives to pay tribute to those who have served in the defense of freedom. Attendees participated in a meaningful patriotic ceremony featuring motorcyclists, the Civil Air Patrol color guard, bagpipers, trumpeters, singers, and a keynote address by Vice Mayor Chris Faraldi. Participants also laid wreaths and reflected on the service of those interred at the historic site. This year marked the first time that the staff and volunteer committee of Old City Cemetery organized the event, taking over from previous patriotic organizations.
A special highlight of the ceremony was the dedication of a Patriot Plaque, commemorating the men and women who fought for American independence. Presented by the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the plaque, located in the Cemetery’s first acre, serves as a lasting tribute to those who have contributed to the nation's history and freedom.
Organized in partnership with Wreaths Across America and local supporters, the event continues to grow each year as a testament to unity, patriotism, and service. Old City Cemetery has hosted this event since 2007.
