Emmy Russell has âbeen singing this song every day,â she said as she shared her cover of an Ella Langley single on Instagram on Monday (December 8).
Russell, who was a finalist on American Idol last year and is Loretta Lynnâs granddaughter, posted her rendition of Langleyâs âChoosinâ Texas.â Langley teamed up with Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor to write the ballad, which made its debut in October. The single with a classic country sound sees the singer on a barstool by herself while a cowboy moves on with another woman on the dance floor.
âJust when I thought I got him to fall in love with Tennessee/ I shoulda known better than to take him back to Abilene/ I put him right back into her arms/ I wasnât a match for that kinda spark/ Sheâs from Texas I can tell by the way/ Heâs two steppin round the room/ And judgin by the smile thatâs written on his face/ Thereâs nothin I can to do/ It doesnât take a crystal ball to see/ A cowboy always finds a way to leave/ Drinkin Jack all by myself/ Heâs choosinâ Texas I can tellâ
âChoosinâ Texasâ follows Langleyâs cover of late country star Toby Keithâs âWish I Didnât Know Now,â and her summer single, âNever Met Anyone Like You.â Her latest project is the deluxe edition of her debut studio album, still hungover. That 19-track album includes the title track, âbetter be tough,â âpaint the town blue,â âwerenât for the windâ and more, plus âyou look like you love meâ with fellow Alabama-born country artist Riley Green. Russellâs most recent release is âThat Girl,â which arrived last month, following âPhone Call to Heaven,â âRedemption,â âLondon Bridges,â âBeautiful Thingsâ and other previously-released songs.
