Zac Brown returned to The Voice for the show’s season finale on Tuesday evening (December 16) after serving as mega mentor earlier in the season.
Brown teamed up with Noah Cyrus on “Butterfly,” a ballad that Zac Brown Band released with Dolly Parton on the group’s latest album, Love & Fear. Brown said on Wednesday (December 17) that he’s “grateful to close out this season of [The Voice], performing ‘Butterfly’ alongside the incredible [Noah Cyrus],” he wrote in a caption on Instagram. “Thanks to The Voice for the opportunity to pour into the next generation of artists. It’s been an honor.”
The Zac Brown Band frontman mentored contestants on Teams Michael Bublé and Snoop Dogg (Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member Joe Walsh mentored contestants on Teams Niall Horan and Reba McEntire). Brown told PEOPLE that mentoring rising singers “was an inspiring day. I got to hear some amazing talent and got to work with some incredible artists.”
“I love the spirit of this show, which is helping to expose people’s talent and help them down the road,” Brown shared when he appeared as mega mentor. “Being able to be a part of something that helps people, I always love to do. The integrity of the show and the people that come from it, and getting to meet everybody that runs this show, and the band, and everybody that’s here, it’s just like, you’re reminded of, like, that’s my kind of people.”
Earlier this year, Zac Brown Band released “Butterfly” with Parton. Brown teamed up with Sacha Sirota, Dan Auerbach, Stephen Lamb and Kristin Wilkinson to write it. He said that “getting to record ‘Butterfly’ with Dolly is a dream come true. She’s always been one of my biggest inspirations, not just as an artist, but as a person. Collaborating with her brought a whole new perspective to the song. Together, we were able to capture the power of storytelling, weaving a narrative we hope will deeply resonate with listeners. Her voice brings so much heart and soul to this track and singing it with her was pure magic. This song was written for my kids for all the challenges life brings.”
“Butterfly” appears on Love & Fear, Zac Brown Band’s record that arrived on the same day the group kicked off “Love & Fear” shows at Sphere Las Vegas. Watch Brown perform with Cyrus here:
