Cops Crack Nut Case
You would have to be nuts to pull off a massive heist of 42,000 pounds of pistachios and expect to get away with it.
After a weeks-long investigation, police in California have arrested 34-year-old Alberto Montemayor and charged him stealing about $170,000 worth of pistachios from the Touchstone Pistachio Company in Terra Bella, California. Employees at the plant noticed a large chunk of their inventory was gone earlier this month and reported it to the sheriff's office. A review of surveillance footage, which showed the plant interacting with multiple third-party trucking companies, led investigators to Montemayor -- an employee of his family's trucking business.
Police have been able to recover 40,000 pounds of nuts, which Montemayor kept stored inside a tractor trailer. He's facing charges of possession of stolen property and grand theft of agricultural commodities. (NBC News)
