WEIRD NEWS: Wink and a Nose

WEIRD NEWS: Wink and a Nose

It's all fun and games until a Tiddlywinks piece gets stuck in your nose and gives you lifetime of pain.

45-year-old Mary McCarthy of New Zealand had experienced pain in her nose for most of her life and just lived with it rather than go to a doctor and checked out. She assumed it was just a sinus condition but then after having a nasal swab COVID test last October, the pain in her nose got much worse and she finally decided to get it checked out.

She was sked if she had ever stuck something up her nose, and she recalled a time when she and her siblings were playing Tiddlywinks and sticking the plastic discs up their noses and blowing them out at each other. She remembered accidentally inhaling a piece and being too embarrassed to tell her parents. So she left it alone and never thought about it again. Doctors performed a CT scan and located a foreign object in her nasal cavity, which required surgery to remove. When she woke up, she was presented with a small, yellow Tiddlywink piece. Scott's Thoughts and Dad Jokes:

  • Kids have always enjoyed sticking things up their noses.
  • Amazing that it took a COVID test to get this taken care of.
  • She may have other other game pieces shoved up there.
